Just one of those days...You know those days, when you look into the mirror and see that your complexion is completely dull, 'washed out' and you see dark patches (around the mouth, nose and forehead)? Yes, those days...when a little pick-me-up is needed. Whenever I need an emergency fix up, I mix up a nice batch of honey for my skin. Honey to me is like magic, it works wonders! So magical, that even Cleopatra, Queen of the Nile used it as a mask treatment for her skin.
The Egyptian royalties buried themselves with all their earthly valuables and honey was one of the most valuable commodities...the people used to pay their taxes with it! Because honey naturally produces hydrogen peroxide (making it antibacterial), they used it to perserve meat, fruit and even bodies...Alexander The Great, was preserved in a clay vessel full of honey! Honey was also found in King Tut's tomb. The sealed honey comb still contained edible honey, even after thousands of years. So, there you go folks, honey does not go bad!
When honey is applied on the skin the antibacterial properties help to treat minor acne flare ups. The antioxidants, amino acids and vitamins help to reduce inflammation and also helps with the regeneration of skin. Honey is also a great moisturizer with its natural hydrating properities, giving the skin a nice glow. Honey is magical isn't it?
Kiwi is probably the most overlooked fruit in the market. Many people find it a 'high maintenance' fruit (requires peeling and creates mess). But did you know that this fruit (one of few contenders) contains the most Vitamin C in the world? Vitamin C plays a huge role in keeping the skin's vibrant glow. When Kiwi is applied on the skin it helps to reduce puffiness andlighten dark areas. The antioxidants helps to protect and rejuvenate damaged skin. Not only does this little fuzzy green fruit taste good, it's good for our body inside and out!
Make sure the kiwis are very ripe!
Researchers have found that as the fruit ripens, the antioxidant level increase as well (due to the breakdown of chlorophyll). You will get more skincare benefits from the more ripe kiwis. Remember, it takes time to be fabulous...even fruit!
I added some lemon. Their juices help exfoliate the dead skin cells...and the acids will help lighten the dark areas of the skin.
C'est fini!
Take a clean brush and apply the mask all over your face. I also went ahead and applied it all over my arms, legs, neck and chest area. It could get a bit messy, so you may want to do this in the tub! Wait 10-15 minutes, then wash off with warm water. Your skin will feel smooth and dewy. And your skin will have a warm glow...the kind of skin you get after a long delicious nap!
Let's all Glow Like Cleo...
Vitamin C is great for skin, especially due to it's collagen production abilities. Really nice photography too.
