I was at the market today, when I heard the song:
'If you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear a flower in your hair...'
It instantly transported me back to last summer, when I explored San Francisco. I could not believe how picturesque the city really was, each photo I took was like a postcard.
I had been reading On The Road (by Jack Kerouac) before this trip, which captured my interest in the whole beat movement (originated in San Francisco). If this is something that interests you, I would suggest you to take the Beatnik Walk. This was probably the most memorable thing I did in the city. I was able to explore by foot the different paths around town, visiting places you would never visit if you were to plan it on your own. Just make sure you give yourself about 3 hours for this trail. At the end of my walk, I treated myself to a nice cold beer at Caffè Trieste, soaking in the spirit of beat poetry! Take a look, I've linked the guide here.
It wouldn't be a California escapade without driving along the Pacific Coast (Hwy 1). Two years ago, when I travelled to Southern California - I drove along the PCH (from L.A.) down south to San Diego. The drive was stunning - and the drive to San Francisco was no exception.
My journey began in Monterey - Pacific Grove (17 mile drive) - Carmel (Great breakfast burritos & Ferarri car show) - Big Sur - McWay Cove -- Monterey (Drove back & Stayed overnight) - San Francisco (Drove up to the city early morning)
California is truly a beautiful state!
The last day, I took a wine tour in Castello Di Amorosa (Napa Valley). Oh...what can I say, I couldn't have ended a wonderful trip a better way. I felt like I need more time - but isn't that always the case when you're travelling.
We'll meet again San Francisco, just look for the girl with flowers in her hair.
Love,
Artifact Girl
